Description

Bur oak grows to heights of 80’.  Bur oak is a large long-lived shade tree, that is the largest of the native oaks to Minnesota. They are found in dry uplands and sandy plains. They can also grow along flood plains. They are tolerant of light drought and flooding, and prefer full sun. Bur oak caps cover more of the acorns than related species, and are also edible! They are great shade trees and provide food for game animals, migrant birds, and small mammals.
