The Hubbard County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will be hosting a “Meet Your Local SWCD” on January 17, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Northwoods Bank Community room, 1200 East First Street in Park Rapids, Minnesota. Do you know what an SWCD does? Do you know there may be funds available and expertise to help you correct soil and water erosion problems on your property? Did you know that the local SWCD is its own local government unit with 5 elected supervisors?
Come to this educational event to get questions answered and meet your districts SWCD Supervisor. We will highlight “Getting to Know Your Local SWCD”, “The Minnesota Buffer Law”, “Wetlands – what you can and can’t do”, “The Watershed Concept and the Leech Lake River One Watershed One Plan project.”
This is also the 20th year of cooperative water quality monitoring between the Hubbard SWCD and Hubbard County Coalition of Lake Association (COLA) member lakes. Help us celebrate this accomplishment and find out about programs for the area lakes.
The SWCD will also provide free private well Nitrate water testing. Bring in a ½ cup of your well water in a clean container that is not refrigerated and is collected before a water treatment system and we can give you results in a few minutes.
There will be light refreshments and door prizes and we hope to see you on Tuesday January 17, 2017.
